I had sinus surgery this past week, which left my face swollen, bruised and hurting. I spent days just dealing and living with that. I binge watched a quirky TV show I like to help me stay still and ignore my discomforts. But a few mornings ago I put on some worship music and was so aware of how much it lifted my spirit. Pain is distracting and it’s easy to be deceived in the midst of it or, at least, to forget what is true and good. This reminds me (for the ump-teenth time) of how much I need to daily align my heart and thoughts with the hope, grace and goodness I have in Jesus.

Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

John 6:35

There have been so many times over many years and seasons of life when I have cried out for the refreshment of my spirit – for an energy and strength to continue to live and love well. I have experienced long stretches of waiting for that renewal. And I am still learning and discovering the ways He cares for me. But, unequivocally, beyond any doubt, worshipping Him in song is a huge and profound part of how He fills me with hope, joy and strength.

Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!

Nehemiah 8:10

I hope your week is filled with the truth and goodness that flows from the One who made you and calls you to Himself.  Peace, friends.
